Radio hour: Picnic at Hanging Rock Soundtrack.

A soft focus lens follows a group of Victorian schoolgirls as they set out on a day trip, deep into the Australian landscape, never to return. A simple picnic at Hanging Rock isn't what it seems. If I could make a soundtrack for this novel-based film it would include these twenty-four ethereal tracks including music by Vashti Bunyan, Wildbirds & Peacedrums, and Simon & Garfunkel.

[This is one of my favorite playlists I've done thus far, based around one of the dreamiest most eerily ethereal movies, Picnic at Hanging Rock.  The film is based around a legendary book which I have just picked up and can't wait to dream away with.  The soundtrack of the movie gives it the ethereal, otherworldly feel and, while I couldn't find any of the actual movie soundtrack scores to put on the playlist, I tried to pick the most feminine and haunting songs I could find about lost little long-haired girls with a knowing look in their eyes, well beyond their years,  giving doe-eyed stares and mischievous smiles.   More posts on both the book and movie soon...]

Thank you, Tess. So glad you enjoyed it.

I recently met an Australian girl here in Brazil and we were talking about that film, she was astounded that I knew of it because it isn't as widely known as it should be, but it has quite a cult following in the US. The soft look of the picture, the gamine girls, the 70s interpretation of Victorian style, and the eerie music all make it so haunting.
