The Beatles sun.

Pictured from the left: George Harrison, 20, Paul McCartney, 21, John Lennon, 22, and Ringo Starr, 23, relax in the sun in Weston-Super-Mare during a week's appearance at the local cinema.

Just one month after these photos were taken their lives would change forever.  This summer day they could enjoy a last fleeting bit of anonymity, sunbathing in their underwear at a UK resort.

These rare photos surfaced a few years ago.  They were shot by an unknown photographer and the Beatles publicist got the copyright.  They were taken in July 1963 during a week when the group had packed out the Odeon cinema in Weston-super-Mare, Somerset.  The band had already had three top ten hits in the UK at this time:  Love Me Do, Please Please Me, and From Me to You.  But it would be in August of that year, when She Loves You shot straight to number one, and they would become a thing of legend.  Its surreal to see this time captured, they appear so unguarded and relaxed... John is interesting though:  he is fully attired and looks on-edge.

He was always a little self-conscious, always with a cynic retort in his pocket.
