Dreamy SX-70 & Co.

In 1972 the new Polaroid SX-70 made a splash.... Not for the dreamy softness and muted tones that draw us to it today, but for its sheer ease of use. Within 10 seconds you could remove this fold-up camera from your pocket and snap away 5 photos. The pictures developed without long wait-times or messy chemicals.

LIFE photographer Co Rentmeester, played with the new SX-70 while shooting the magazine's October 27, 1972 cover story and captured some arresting dream scenes with the camera.
